Many constituents have contacted me about the horror of Aleppo.

What we have all seen going on there has been unspeakable and it is to our shame as a world that we have been unable to prevent it. The Russian and Syrian governments have attacked hospitals and civilians, and in effect besieged eastern Aleppo by refusing to allow aid in.

Although I campaigned hard to remain in the European Union, I respect the outcome of the referendum. The UK will therefore now be leaving the EU and the triggering of Article 50 is required to start the process. The recent court ruling was important, but it does not change the outcome of the referendum. What the court said was that the Government cannot initiate Article 50 using what is known as the Royal prerogative power; instead this must be a decision for Parliament. The Government is currently appealing but if it is unsuccessful, then I expect that they will come forward with legislation to trigger Article 50, which I will support.

I campaigned strongly for us to remain in the EU, but we lost the referendum and therefore have to respect the outcome. The task now is to work towards securing the best deal for Britain.

Like many who have contacted me recently, I value our National Health Service; it’s one of our great national institutions and forms part of the essential fabric of our society, there for us all when we need it.

It is deeply concerning that homelessness and rough sleeping have both risen sharply since 2010.  While homelessness fell by 62% under the previous Labour government (1998 to 2010), the number of families accepted as homeless has risen by a third since 2010, and recorded rough sleeping has doubled in the last six years and has risen by 30% in the last year alone.

I share the concerns of those who have contacted me recently regarding rail fare rises and services.  Our railways should be run under public ownership, in the public interest and with affordable fares.

I have been contacted by many constituents recently regarding the UK Government's commitment to spend 0.7% of Gross National Income (GNI) each year on Official Development Assistance (ODA) and the related Tearfund campaign.  I strongly support the campaign, not least because of my previous experience as a cabinet minister.

Lots of people have written to me about the decision the British people will take on 23 June about whether we should remain in the European Union or leave.

General elections settle who will run the country for the next five years but this referendum on Europe will affect the future of our country for the rest of our lifetimes. It's a choice that will really matter.
