Hilary’s New Westminster Role

Following the recent Shadow Cabinet elections, Hilary Benn has been appointed shadow Leader of The House of Commons. He will be shadowing Conservative Leader of The House Sir George Young, who will be organising the schedule of business in the House of Commons. This important role will see him seeking to prevent the coalition government from rushing through its reforms without proper debate. He will also be working to regulate the new MPs’ expenses system.

Hilary said: “The new Leader of the Labour Party Ed Miliband has asked me to take on this important role. It’s all about making sure that Parliament does its job in holding the Government to account. And as your local MP I will also seek to ensure that Leeds gets a fair deal.”
