Hilary recently attended the opening of the newly refurbished St Mark's Church in Woodhouse.  Gateway Church has brought life back to the once redundant St Mark’s, as it hosted its Civic Opening on Friday 6th June with Hilary and the Lord Mayor of Leeds who with Gateway member Olivia Evans pulled the ribbon from the accessibility lift.

At the opening Richard Crooks, the architect who had been working on the restoration, presented Gateway Church with a restored section of stain glass dating back to Circa1827, which he had found in fragments in the basement of St Marks prior to the refurbishment work beginning.

St Mark’s was redundant for 5 years before Gateway bought it in 2006. Since then they have spent six years fundraising and renovating the 1817 built church building which was commissioned by the British government after the battle of Waterloo.

As the building takes shape, Gateway hopes it will be used by a variety of different social groups, and for a range of different activities from parent & toddler groups to classes for dance and language.
