Tier 3 regulations
Tier 3 regulations

The current lockdown rules will expire on the 2nd December and the country will move into a new tiered system. Leeds will be in Tier 3. This will be devastating for hospitality businesses and the jobs they support because this is the time of year they rely on for sales. The position will be reviewed every 14 days, so the best way to get into Tier 2 is to get the number of infections down further. Details of the new arrangements can be found here:

In Leeds, the infection rate has fallen by 27% in the last week. It is now 296 per 100,000. In further positive news, the 60+ rate has also decreased and is now 272 per 100,000, but there is still widespread community transmission. The number of patients in Leeds hospitals – 301 – is still significantly above the previous peak in April, although the numbers in critical care are lower due to improved treatment.

The good news is that initial results show that three vaccines should work, and so for the first time we now have hope that we can return to something approaching normal life by the spring, provided the regulators approve the vaccines for use swiftly. It’s a reminder of just how important science is and how quickly we can do things when we put our minds to it. Preparations for the roll-out of the vaccination programme in Leeds are underway.
