Recent figures also show a fall in the number of city-centre flats being built. 4250 flats have been delayed or shelved, in addition to high-profile schemes which have fallen victim to the credit crunch, eg the Spiracle, the Kissing Towers and the Lumiere. Rachael Unsworth, from the University of the Leeds School of Geography, has said that this might prove a blessing for the city’s future as we were “heading for a major oversupply of a particular kind of accommodation” and we now have a chance to reconsider.
