Leeds City Council will shortly be making a decision on whether to allow barbecues on Woodhouse Moor. I sincerely hope the idea will be stopped in its tracks. The YEP said in April that “it scarcely credible that Leeds Council…plans to sink dozens of concrete slabs into the turf” to allow barbecues to continue. Anyone who has seen the damage that is already being done to the grass on our much-loved Moor and the rubbish - including glass bottles - that is strewn everywhere will scarcely believe it either.
Woodhouse Moor - like all parks - is a special place. It is there for everyone to share and enjoy. I suspect that those responsible for the fires and the mess are somewhat embarrassed by what they are doing, but that is all the more reason to put a stop to it rather than give it official blessing. Everyone who cares about the Moor should make their voice heard now before it is too late.
