Public sector housing in the city has got a boost. John Healey has now approved the Homes and Communities Agency’s recommendation that the bid submitted by Leeds City Council for the city’s lifetime neighbourhoods for Leeds scheme should be accepted. The ten new PFI housing schemes will help provide 4,500 new or improved council homes as well as 1,600 new affordable rented homes, as part of a massive regeneration programme in partnership with private sector contractors in some of our most deprived neighbourhoods across the country. This approval will enable the project to proceed to the next stage. The bid promises to develop over a 30 year period new affordable housing and expand a small network of extra care provision in Leeds. 600 extra care units and 510 lifetime homes will be built across 20 sites, and will support existing regeneration programmes across the city.
